It’s 3:45 am

…And I am surfing the web thinking.  Yes occasionally I think!  Actually the truth is I had to shut down my brain for a bit on the completion of the feature version of “Drawn by Pain”.  I was a tad on the burnt out side of things.

With all that chaos that come with making something you are passionate about – sometimes you can push so hard that when you finally finish pushing – you forget why you started the push in the first place.  That’s when it’s time to step away and decompress if even for a few weeks.

I find myself asking what has been achieved so far?  Where do I stand?  3 weeks ago I might have shrugged and said I have no idea if anything has moved.   But that feeling passes with a few weeks of sleep.   I must say I am feeling proud of what I have been able to do with very little.  I am proud that I didn’t let all the outside and sometimes inside voices tell me it couldn’t be done.  I’m proud that I am ready to take this work and take the risk of sharing it in it’s true form.

I do hope people take the time.  I do hope that people understand what I was trying to say in the way that I said it.  I do hope I can have the resources to make a life out of doing this,

I really can’t thank all those that have stayed with me along the way.  I even feel grateful to those that have fallen away for I miss their friendship on many days.

Things are looking up.  I have a good feelings about the coming days.  I think with all the hard work – only good things can happen.

Time Warner Cable

Has so much compression in it that I believe it has now become the big screen version of youtube.  It’s so sad that they offer three times the amount of channels without expanding the bandwidth enough to make any of them look good – even in HD.  Watching an actor run across the screen and turn into blocks and pixels – makes my tv sad

It’s no wonder people like watching movies in Blu-ray.

What’s next for Online video

I find myself pondering the state of online video these days.  How does it fit into the big picture of entertainment in general?  Are we a side project of big media companies?  A pilot season for the “big show” or a true form of communication in itself that can be self sustainable if it chooses?

I see companies laying off people in the new media space and a 1 million new filmmakers pop up each day (some with great stuff).  But as the noise grows (with millions of new uploads a day) the opportunity seems to shrink as a million niche markets are created for small groups of people who enjoy them – none of them having the ability to become profitable on their own.  Is it doomed that only content aggregators (like youtube) can do well in the long run as it lumps everything into one advertising friendly space.  With a million stars a day – I can only see one place that benefits – the site that convinces them all that there is an actual chance of them doing well (fools gold I think).

Can something like “Drawn by Pain” (my series) do well being an original project with high production values?  How does it fit into the mass upload age?  Perhaps building out the intellectual property is the gain itself as brand recognition has a economic value these days beyond the immediate.  If that is the risk to be taken – it seems as if the quality driven sites (like blip.tv) seem the best bet for at least assuring the presentation is correct (when quality and control of the message counts).   Seems to be the approach I have taken for a bit.  In the end, I have to have faith that hard work and quality always win in the end…but it certainly is a confusing landscape on which I change my mind on daily.

These days it’s hard to turn on the news without saying “zomg today we are FUCKED!”.  But the reality is today is like any other day.  We are not fucked anymore than we were fucked yesterday.

Honestly I think I wrote this journal just so I could keep using the word FUCKED.
